When your child is sick please remember to abide by school policy & keep them home for at least 24 hours after they are fever-free-without medication.  Also, if they have diarrhea or vomiting, they need to stay home as well.  We do our best to disinfect the room, have the children "catch" their coughs/sneezes, and wash their hands.  One way you can help at home is to make sure your child is not still contagious before sending them back to school.  We urge you to be cautious and use your best judgement if your child is not feeling well (especially with Mrs. Walker being pregnant).

Don't forget the JDRF Walk is this Saturday!!!!!

This week we are learning...

IB Unit: Won't You Be My Neighbor (How We Organize Ourselves)
Reader's Workshop: readers figure out words by using the beginning sound and getting their mouth ready, readers think, “Does it make sense? Does it sound right?", readers notice the end of the word, too
Writer's Workshop: conferencing and not interrupting
Math: review for assessment
Science/Social Studies:  families/communities
Language Arts: magic e
Author Study: Frank Asch
Spelling Words: but, get, for, with, said
Challenge Words: pet, quiet, regret, forget, upset

Team W had another awesome week in 1st grade! We are amazed with how engaged the class is during lessons. We worked on problem solving/word problems in math all week. The students learned so much! The problems were challenging and designed to be solved in many different ways.

We wrapped up the week with a cooperative learning group challenge. Each table of students had to work together as a team to solve a word problem. The groups started off a little shaky and many students struggled to cooperate. Once each team realized the benefits of working together it was smooth sailing!

The field trip to Rolesville High School to see Charlotte's Web was great! Our class was very well behaved and enjoyed the production.
